Summary:
A protest against Umbridge and what she represents based on the Sting song And They Danced Alone
Notes:
Ok, this one is a little depressingly weird.
Set in the HP world, I wanna say year 5 just to piss off Umbitch.
To give a little background, this would be a song fic of sorts.
The song being an obscure one as they pretty much buried it as being to political when the cd came out.
Pinochet was still in office at the time and America was all for him, and Sting did it as a way pointing out the disappearances he was doing to those who dared speak out against him.
The song is called “They Danced Alone” and is about how the people showed their Anti-Pinochet feelings in the only safe way they could, by dancing with pictures of their missing loved ones.
Which is very, very appropriate for our dear representative of the Ministry, Umbridge.
Scene, the Great Hall
Day, November 1st, All Saints Day.
Time, Dinner.
Harry brings a recording crystal with Sting’s song on it, as well as two more with the equivalent of holograms of his parents taken from the memory of Remus (the most clear-headed of the two Marauders on this). The holos show James and Lily as they were the month before they were killed. He also has holos of other Order of Phoenix members who died during the war and whose children are now in Hogwarts, on crystals, which he intends to give to each child after he was done.
Just as dinner was winding up, Harry lines up his crystals, tapping the music crystal to begin playing, while putting a delaying spell on all the others except his own parents.
People quieted down as they hear the opening of the strange music and watch as the-boy-who-lived got up from his corner seat. Two beings who almost looked like ghosts appeared near him, with him giving a small smile to both of them.
The female gets in front of him, while the male stands protectively behind him, as they sway in a waltz-like circle in the open space at the end of the tables. Just then the chorus starts, and everyone get the meaning of the statement he is making, and just and who he is dancing with.
At this point, Neville’s parents show, then slowly all the other parents show up, getting cries from their children.
It doesn’t take but a moment before they catch on and start dancing with their own missing.
“They’re dancing with the missing
They’re dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They’re dancing with their fathers
They’re dancing with their sons
They’re dancing with their husbands
They dance alone… they dance alone”
As the song comes to an end and the holos fade away, the last refrain come out:
“One day we’ll dance on their graves
One day we’ll sing our freedom
One day we’ll laugh in our joy
And we’ll dance
One day we’ll dance on their graves
One day we’ll sing our freedom
One day we’ll laugh in our joy
And we’ll dance”
All is quiet in the Great Hall except for sniffling coming from those who were moved by the sight.
Even Umbridge daren’t say a word
Harry goes over to the table and takes each crystal in hand and then heads to each person putting the precious memory in their hand. Telling each of them that he would see to it they would have a copy of the music crystal to play for themselves.
Then calmly walks out, daring anyone to try and stop him as he had very pointedly made his statement.
