Raven’s Bane
Prologue:

Lee and Amanda Stetson had come a long way since their “quiet” marriage all those years ago. The boys were adults now with families of their own. The boys were each Alpha Guides in their own right, having got it from the maternal line as their grandmother, Dotty, had been one, as well as their mother.

Lee and Amanda are the Alpha Primes of the East Coast now. Having moved up in the ranks when the old ones retired. And were in New York to check out a troublesome report about a Center in Manhattan that had Latent or those not quite online yet, children disappearing. And turning up later having been killed. And they were all on the roles of that Center. So, they had been called in to look into the problem.

Their Spirit Animals had disappeared from them as soon as they were called to go and investigate the problem and they were getting nervous themselves the closer they got to the city.
Something high powered was up and they seemed to be the focal point of it.

There seemed to be a power sink the nearer they got to the Center, and Sensitives along with Guides were being transported to the overflowing hospitals has been overwhelmed.
As they were parked outside the blockaded area leading to where they wanted, they saw the pickets and shouting from those who had come out in recent years against anything they deemed as not being normal. Sentinels and Guides being the tops of their lists of hatred at the moment.

Time seemed to slow and stretch as they got closer. Amanda started to pull her partner back as she suddenly felt through the dampers blocking both their senses and realized there was a large bomb nearby that…….

And everyone in the four-block area was incinerated by the suicide bomber.

Raven’s Bane
Chapter One:

Amanda’s POV:

Amanda came too and stumbled as she had been stretched out over her old vacuum, in the old house’s living room. The house she had lived in before she and Lee had moved to the place nearer the DC Center to work after the last of her boys had moved out.

She didn’t have time to groan over finding herself somehow there and newly online, with the memories of her old self coming into her mind and melding with her other memories of being blown to pieces. Her Serval Cat Spirit Animal, named Berber, was trying to gain her attention. As she was working through that whole trauma.

Then it hit her just what her old memories were telling her. Lee had been kidnapped by that TV Chef/Spy. Who had been using Francine to get inside information on US movements.

She quickly put the vacuum away and changed into a T-shirt to go with her jeans and Keds™. Re-brushed her hair to put it up in a braid and out of her face. And was lamenting the lack of any portable phones that were not attached to a car or a house at this time, as she raced out of the house to her mom mobile.

A quick stop at the store to pick up a pound of sugar for later, and she was on her way to the manor house the chef worked at and lived.
Calmly going the speed limit so as to not draw attention to herself enough to get stopped by a patrol and lose even more time.

Lee’s POV:

Lee suddenly came too as both memories slammed together in his mind and his own Spirit Animal, A Lion by the name of Clayton, growled and stood guard between him and the door.
He knew exactly where he was now and was pissed off but had to remain calm for now and await rescue.
And actually think and not just be a walking poster child for machoism this time around.

He already knew his temporary Guide was compromised and was giving the enemy information while being brainwashed. And that afterwards had received no therapy or had the agency check to see exactly what had been planted in her brain whenever she was under the care of the bitch.

Later, this led to a lot of problems as she had her brainwashing reactivated and lots of people were killed because she was too stubborn to see she had needed to get the job done about her own mental health.
And the fact that she absolutely blamed Amanda for her going dormant and losing her own Guide abilities because she had refused mental therapy, and Guides can’t exist in the mentally or emotionally damaged, didn’t help either. As both he and Amanda had been almost killed several times because of her. And they lost their newborn son because of it.

Clayton gave a low-level growl at where his thoughts and feelings were going so, he reigned himself in and concentrated on searching out, to find his link with his bonded mate. Still on guard in case of trouble, as the bitch’s 2iC came in to question him.

He felt his bonded brush against his mental shields and grinned at the bastard’s hit. Marked her through his own senses on her heartbeat as she maneuvered in from the edges of the property inwards. Coming into contact with the occasional guard and taking them out. Quietly.
So, he just allowed the attacks on him for while drawing all the attention, and when she got the last guard by the cellar entrance he signaled mentally for Clayton to show himself and attack. And by the noise above him, he knew Berber was doing likewise upstairs where they were with Francine.

A Spirit Animal isn’t necessarily on the normal plane, so their attacks are not physical, what they are is in the psychic and spiritual. And cause the being they attack, to go immediately into psychic shock and shut down. So, everyone but the two of them were now out for the count. He smirked at just how that meant they both attacked Francine.

The Center insisting the new pair being able to bond trumped IA wanting a debrief on everything, though Amanda and Lee’s statement on Francine being Psychologically and Psychically compromised had them put her in isolation till she was cleared by their own Guides. And further pissed off the head of IA.
So much so, he only gave them two days of bonding time before he threw his weight around and insisted all the AAR forms be sent in to be filled out immediately and times set up to go over them in a debriefing.

He was so used to being the top dog in the Agency that he forgot about S&G contracts all Agencies had to sign to even have Sentinel and Guides get near them. And his forceful actions at denying a new Alpha Prime couple from properly bonding had the Prime couple of the East Coast pull all their Sentinels and Guides, bonded and not, from their Agency till a proper audit of Sentinel and Guides and their treatments could be done…. Lee’s section failed due to the only Guide for that floor – at that time, Francine – ignoring the guidelines to the detriment of the only Sentinel on the floor, Lee. And no other Guides in the Agency had the balls to do anything about it.

The Lead Agent of IA and Francine were put on notice that they were now going to be heavily watched for their attitudes against those employed by the Center and by the new Area Primes. And the new Alpha’s of the Agency as well, no matter if they were the same couple. That is when the IA Agent and Francine were allowed back from their suspensions. And for Francine, when she was cleared by her therapist, she was getting all the mental damage fixed.

The Agency technicians only thoughts was all the work they now had to put into getting the new confiscated enemy helicopter back to work as they had to completely overhaul not only the engine but replace all the hoses and gas parts that were part of it due to the Agent and partner to the Alpha Prime Sentinel Stetson having put half a bag of sugar in the lines. The rest went into the enemy vehicles. Which they would just scrap after going over them.

And the penny pinchers just had to bite it as part of the punishments given by S&G was to have the Center send over special cleaning people to clean those compromised rooms for S&G personnel. At the Agency’s expense, as they were the ones who let them get so bad no more people would be sent back till the whole Agency was up to code.

The penny pinchers above Billy soon came to regret Amanda and her getting her hands on any clipboards as it always ended up costing them lots of money. But the team of her and Scarecrow was in the top five of cases and missions were taken care of without problems throughout all Agencies, so there was no way to get rid of the two of them.

And with each covered now through the Center’s legal department on MPOA and POAs they were now screwed on that front as well.
