Buck plays blues music
Bring Me Down
Eddie knew that his son had quietly developed a taste for the Blues lately, but he had no idea where it came from. His girlfriend Ana told him that it was a phase the boy was going through as all children did, then made him forget all about it for a while again.
Recently though, Chris had been a bit more moody than general, and while Eddie put it down to his getting shot and then taking on the job at dispatch, somehow, he didn’t think that was all that was too it.
Lately, he knew his son had been talking to Buck on facetime and sometimes dual listening to blues guitar riffs, and one he knew had caught Chris’ attention enough that Eddie was curious to see what it was.
He waited until his son was away at school to hunt down his tablet and then had to hunt through his son’s list of music to find it. Somehow finding it under Bucky Blues.
There staring him in the face was his Buck playing the guitar before a blues band and his velvet voice crooning the songs he had been listening to his son playing with the most recent being “Bring Me Down.”
This one was a full video starting with camera footage from Buck’s early days at the station:
They’ve tried everything
To bring me down
Buck’s head down and shoulder’s slumped as everyone around him is laughing
Thrown their worst at me
I’m still around
A montage of accidents waiting to happen to him as seen through the lenses of police uniform cameras. Chim laughing and joking instead of paying attention to the winch as Buck is going down and the winch breaking. One of his superiors from when he had been a probie pointing him in an area of a house on fire and then the explosion that almost took him out and their laughing about it. He was arrested like the others during the bank case. Split screens showing everyone else getting questioned and allowed to leave while a clock at the bottom of his still kept ticking for over twelve hours before he was questioned.
Pressure breaks the weak
I’m not made that way
Interim Captain Chim riding his ass constantly on and off duty
Every test they give me
Just makes me stay
Constantly rerolling the hoses for the new captain.
I’ve been bent but never broken
Bent but I still stand
Old recently recovered footage of captain Chim forcing Buck to sit in front with the driver. The cab’s footage of the explosion.
They don’t know the kind of strength
That comes from a man
Buck standing tall with his new requalification certificates
They can push,
They can pull
Notice after notice about not being allowed to come back to work stating he wasn’t ready yet.
I don’t bend,
I don’t break
Statements showing his payments from the fire department had been stopped as he requalified. Flashes showing the amount of hospital bills piling up that the department was refusing to pay.
I’m forged in the fire
Tested by the storm
Pictures of Buck the day of the tsunami and the lists of names of everyone he had saved that day. Topping that list was Eddie’s son’s name.
Don’t break is my answer
It’s all I know for sure.
Eddie was ashamed to see his red angry face yelling at Buck in the grocery store, then a series of shots showing the station in a bad light as the bullying continued though now it was blatant.
They’ve tried everything
To bring me down
Firefighters on all shifts who should know better but shown now at their human bigoted worst.
Thrown their worst at me
I’m still around
Buck, on camera still doing his job to the best he is able to prove them all wrong. Proving he can do his job to the point they slowly leave him alone now. Ignore him to do the job he wants to.
I’m forged in the fire
Tested by the storm
Buck goes through fires to do his job, jumping into rivers and the ocean.
Don’t break is my answer
It’s all I know for sure.
Tears flowing down Eddies face as he finished watching the video, he closed the tablet and picked up his phone to look at the last time he had actually called his friend. Finding that it was right before he had been shot. Had it really been so long?
He called to tell Ana that something had come up, and he would be able to be with her that night as he planned his movie night with his friend Buck. Texting him.
Oh. No. He understood other plans with friends from outside the department. Maybe later.
Eddie now knew the true meaning of the words heartbreak as he knew he had lost his best friend because of his actions. Buck may not have broken as his answer, but Eddie did.
