Contemplation
He Stood in Stillness
He stood facing the same pond he liked to run around on his good days. The soft rain that had been coming down during the night, ending, and leaving a beautiful sunrise.
His body and clothes wet from being out all night in that rain searching for clues on where to find his probie’s killer. Tears mixed with the wetness from the rain as he watched the sun rise without her.
He shivered lightly from being out all night in the rain right after getting out of the hospital. Not that he seriously noticed in his mourning.
He stood watching the sun slowly come up over the park. Its light and colors reflect on the surface of the pond.
Streetlights turn off, one by one as it rose higher, gold mixed to orange mixed to blue of the sky.
He wiped his newly wet face again as his phone rang in his pocket. Boss wants him back to work. Break time is over.
He still stood in silence and wished her travels to be safe, before finally moving on.
His standing there watching the sunrise, in silence, and stillness, settled him more than empty condolences could. And now it was time to put that stillness and hard-won patience to use. They had a killer on the loose.
