Urban Magic – Hung Out to Dry
Part One:

Corporal Dafelmair: How good a deal?
Gibbs: Read him his article 31s.
Tony: You have the right to remain silent.
Team member: He doesn’t deserve a deal!
Tony: Hey, hey, back off! Come on.
Team member: Cool it, man!
Gibbs: DiNozzo! Goodbye, DiNozzo.

Tony already knew there were problems with the new person his old partner had brought onto the team. As it was no secret she had been quit/fired from the Secret Service her past job as the main member of the Security Detail on Air Force. Having been found to have been sleeping with the main ball carrier for the current President and that was a no-no. In fact, it compromised the security of her charge so much, that she neglected her job and allowed a terrorist to get into a position to almost take the plane he was on down.

His once partner Gibbs, now boss took a liking to her “Frog’s Balls” so much that she hadn’t stay unemployed for long. Tony often wondered exactly what kind of leverage Gibbs had used to have her hired so quickly as their newest team member. Changing their previous dynamic of their team and in Tony’s option not for the better. As his new teammates clearly held the entitled mentality that they were equal and not her actual subordinates to him.

Tony thought of this as he fell before he pulled his cord and launched the ‘chute to start to float down and hopefully not land wrong as he had never done this before, let as well at night.
Bowie’s Major Tom playing in his head for some depressing reason.

He called his fairy godmother – someone who had helped him after his mother had fallen ill before her death – to come to him, and she appeared to listen to his plan to get the experience and wisdom he needed, and from there, the ‘chute and he temporarily disappeared from that timeline.

Tony inhaled sharply as he suddenly found himself on the bus to Army Boot Camp in Georgia during the middle of Vietnam of 67. His sudden new memories placed him straight out of the Rhode Island Military Academy (RIMA) his father had put him in soon after his mother’s death. As in the old timeline he had been disowned by his father but hadn’t had the chance to attend college. His hair still buzzed. He was wearing his off-duty clothes from his old school. Right down to his shined boots and belt buckle. He had his military style wallet with his id in it and the money he had saved from the extra work he had done around the school.
He had on an old analog watch that told him he still had a few hours to go till they arrived, so he bunched up his jacket into a pillow and got a few ZZs of sleep like he had long ago learned to get on the job.

Waking up as the bus slowed down and easily put his jacket back on and got ready to disembark. Standing the moment, the Sergent Drill Instructor (DI) got on and started to yell and took himself out of the bus before a lot of his mates on the bus got moving as he had virtually nothing he owned with him. After all, he had just spent the last several years in a military school where personal crap wasn’t allowed. He had his toiletry bag and a change of clothes and that was all. All fitting nicely in a makeshift bag.

A bag that was looked at in askance by the Sergent over their intake as he waited for his trim and his gear was gone through. What he had left in the world was put into the donation pile and he got to strip down for his physical after his trim. Then got loaded down for his new gear and told him to get dressed right there. Then over to get his name put on his BDUs to wear next.

Between his own RIMA training and Gibbs getting physical in his retribution, it didn’t take long for Tony to get used to the old style of physically remaking a civvie into a soldier.
His marching and running came easy as he was used to it from RIMA even with a full pack everywhere they went. The Di’s surprised then thrilled when he tested out at sniper levels repeatedly on the range. Thanks to Gibbs being a perfectionist and his excellent eyesight. And his training under Mike had his Search, Escape, Response, Evade, (SERE) training questionable in his estimation as there was no way the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) would take this that easy on a person.

When he graduated from Basic it was with the rank of PFC and notes in his file that if he did well in his specialty training, he was to be moved up a rank to Specialist 2.
He was assigned additional training with an infantry unit, with, again, notes in his file that if he did well and wished to, he was to go onto sniper school after 6 months in country. They just needed him a bit seasoned before then.
From there, it was air service across the ocean to Hawaii to refuel then over to Saigon. He was already asleep before the plane took off each time, having been on military flights to carriers on long flights before and got used to them.

There he was sectioned off to be choppered into a forward base at Chu Choi, and sent to Battalion 2 the Wolfhounds, platoon 4. There he was the FNG or Fucking New Guy. He just kept his mouth shut at the derogatory names sent to him about his Italian name from NY and obviously being a Made Man. OOOOOO Boogeyman. That’s what they started to call him from that day on.
Personally, he just wanted a cold shower as it was the monsoon season in the tropics and 100+/100 during their daytimes and 95/100 at night. With rain constantly.

They had one extra day off to get him and two other FNG’s geared up and ready then they met the truck at 0600 to take them to the choppers and head out to the Iron Triangle for 30 days of patrol. The landing was hot as the old crowd put it the base they were from was serviced by Vietnamese who during the day serviced the REMFs and at night went home to tell the NVA everything they learned from the Rear Echelon Mothers. So, of course, they knew before they did where they would land, so a welcome committee would be meeting them.

The REMF Major was flying overhead in his own chopper with a cooler of cold drinks and food yelling at the captain to get the men moving as they were already behind his schedule when the men in question were pinned down and under enemy fire. It took yelling back by the Luie for the Major finally realized the captain was dead having had his brains blown out to get artillery going to finish taking the enemy out. Blowing Tony’s and the other men’s ears as the bombs landed close to them.

The patrol went downhill from there as the battalion lost almost half its men under enemy fire and booby traps and never finished the patrol the Major wanted by the time he was removed by the base’s Colonel and the men and Tony brought back in to recover for three days before being sent back out for another patrol.

Tony took the Sniper track and from there another tour arriving just in time to survive Tet, getting holed up in an old French Fort deep in country during it as he and the men he was with and under his command as a First Sargent by this time surrounded by VC (Viet Con).
Arty was busy elsewhere with Tet hitting everywhere and they were low on ammo. Weapons got too hot to use as they were being fired too much.
No help anywhere near them, and they were low on food and out of first aid for their many wounded.

Tony took his handgun and loaded it with his last bit of ammo and went around to put the wounded out of their misery as the enemy hated non-coms and only wanted officers. What they did to non-officers was the stuff of nightmares and he wasn’t going to leave his men to that.
The rest of the men soon joined the dead, leaving the medic and him. He shot the medic and destroyed the cache of weapons left, called things in with the last of the radio battery then destroyed it before blowing his own brains out.

Finding himself back to floating in the parachute after he had been pushed out of the plane while Gibbs tried to get the perp to confess instead of waiting for the DNA to convict him.
He expertly sent his ‘chute to an open field and landed in a way that allowed him to bring his ‘chute under control.
Calling the military base they had been at for a ride back so they could get their equipment back, he waited.
Then called his director at home to give his verbal report in every meaning of the word as he WAS NOT gentle about what went wrong and just how he, a newbie, ended up out of the plane at night when he had no experience.

Furthermore, the confession his nominal boss at this time received could be overturned by a mediocre lawyer as being coerced thereby the murder would go free. All because Gibbs just had to play John Wayne.
He further mentioned that due to mental and emotional health reasons, he was taking a paid sabbatical for the time he had on the books that Gibbs hadn’t been allowing him to have and Bromstead was on his case about. If Gibbs still had his job due to knowing all those secrets, then HE can train the Frog’s Balls he brought in while he was gone. Obviously since he mentioned balls and her in the same sentence, he must like her to use the strap-on when she screws him over.
However, he liked to top and not bottom thank you very much and he wasn’t a fan of strap ons, or the women who insist on them.

He pulled a Gibbs and just hung up after that, then left a message with Bromstead that he was taking his full time off for mental and emotional health reasons and would NOT be available TO ANYONE. No matter what the reasons were.

Gibbs, of course, was still waiting for him back at the base, and tried to smack him across the back of the head for daring to be pushed off the plane. Tony, fresh from the battlefield, took him down and out like he was the enemy and broke the fucking hand that he had grabbed to stop it from attacking him from behind. His foot almost removing Gibbs’ need to breathe as he was pushing it against his windpipe. The tune of This is the End by the Doors in the back of his brain;

The killer awoke before dawn
He put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door
And he looked inside
“Father?” “Yes, son?” “I want to kill you”

It took three marines to get him off his nominal boss then have the MPs arrest Gibbs for attacking a man that had just been pushed out of a plane for his first time jumping. The man was OBVIOUSLY jumpy about it and anyway the Corp does NOT allow physical discipline, and he was STILL a reservist.

Gibbs barely got out of the whole mess his actions made with his skin intact but had to renew his time at FLETC along with Todd for the two months Tony was out getting used to being back in civilization again. Todd due to ignoring the fact she had been ordered there to learn how to be an investigator to begin with. Gibbs to be forced to relearn his lessons again and get technology and moder paperwork through his head.
