Restraint
Chapter Two:
Instead of heading back to the loft, where everyone and their brother/sister could find him, Buck headed to a little B&B place he knew of out near the mountains. And got a room for a few days. Shutting down his phone at the first ring from Maddie. And letting it go straight to voicemail instead. While letting his phone recharge.
He had big plans for the upcoming days, but first, he needed some rest.
He no longer really remembered just how he had passed away in the last life, he just knew that it was a lingering death. And in the end, he was by himself. Just like after the truck and embolism. And now.
And it was something he was going to have to get over, yet again. But this time, he was going to
change his proxies to those who had proven they wouldn’t turn their backs on him. Unlike now.
Annndd…Shit, he mentally groused to himself, as he picked up his charging phone and turned it back on to the several texts and voice mails from his sister. Of which he saved down for later as he went to his contacts and called Steve over in Oahu.
The phone rang twice, before Danno answered it, “Buck? You ok?”
Buck leaned against the headboard and sighed, “Can you put me on speaker if Steve’s there?”
There was a pause, then “Your live Bast. What’s going on?” Came from Steve McGarrett of Five-O. And Buck’s old teammate.
“How much have you been paying attention over here?”
“You made ZNN with the bombing Buck, but your sister was manning the phones and blocked us. Hondo was able to get messages about how you were doing and said she was limiting who could see you. We’ve just been waiting to hear anything. Especially after the second scare.”
“Well…. Fuck…I need you here with your partner. I think it’s time to hit the lawyer and change my paperwork back to you three with Hondo handling things till you two get here.”
“That bad?”
Buck sighed again. “It’s a total Cluster Fuck of epic proportions here. And I need backup. Since all of the ones here seem to be following my sister’s doublespeak.”
There was the sound of movement on the other end, then, “Ok, I just got confirmation from a friend that he’ll have his charter plane ready to go at dawn for us. We had already let people know we may need to leave for a family emergency on the mainland. So, expect us there sometime in the evening. Dannys in the other room with Hondo getting a place to shack up. And after that we’ll both call over to headquarters to get the time off. Just hold on. But I can already hear Hondo asking where you are so he can head over.
“Knowing you, you went to ground fast.”
Buck gave the hotel’s address and his room number. He listened as it was relayed over to Danny. “Ok, he’s on his way over to you.”
Buck paused as a make it or break it, with a push on the break it, thought came to his mind, “Have him go by my apartment and grab some clothes and my toiletries. Plus, my meds, important papers, and bugout bags, please. And my laptop as well. And make sure he has his badge on him.”
“Expecting trouble at your place?”
“Yeah, of no boundaries exist type.”
“Ah.” And a mumble over to Danny, “Ok all relayed. Anything else?”
“No thanks Commander, ‘preciate it.”
“No problem Bast. Keep your anger in check, and we’ll be there soon.”
“’K see you soon.” And he hung up. Then hung up on Maddie’s latest try to get hold of him. Then searched through his contacts for Hanna. It was going to be a long night.
Reminding himself to check his bank’s accounts and credit accounts while he was at it.
