The people at the hidden base in Cheyenne Mountain couldn’t believe Kinsey had become the Vice President. Kinsey, the head of the hidden spy group called the Trust and who had tried to get their base shut down so his own people could control it themselves.
The fact that his first day he set up an investigation that forced General Hammond, late of their command, to answer questions of what was going on at the base to the new President so Kinsey could, again, get control of it, shows why he went for the VP slot in the first place.

Add in his going behind everyone’s back when Hammond’s second in command was taken out by an Ancient Device to get control of the person the President put in control of the base, Weir, just showed his dirty spots even more.
Then he tried to use the base’s Gate to escape the planet’s enemy that was attempting to invade, yeah, he was a coward.

Meanwhile, the enemy who had taken on the old Egyptian God name of Apophis was fighting in spaceships over the Antarctic where international scientists and bases were. Ones who contacted, with recordings, their homelands to show just what was going on around them. Some of those recordings made it out to the public and went viral immediately, with hackers getting into sats to get direct feed of the fight and feeding those over the internet links.
Something that was being ignored by the various leaderships as they watched the death match fight over their world.

Silence as everyone around the world that access to the feeds watched and waited for the end, then watched as golden globes flew out of the hole they had been fighting above. Golden globes that attacked and took out the enemy ships, exploding them to pieces.
The internet did its own exploding with that, which finally got noticed by a lowly agent who tried to show the warning to his superiors and got yelled at for it. He just wrote up his report and kept on recording what was being said across the internet he had access too.

It wasn’t until the news stations around the world picked up the mass internet news of what went on. This, of course, caught the world leaderships with their pants down around their feet as they were already screwed on the news of alien enemies.

A bright boy of a lowly private and janitor on base “leaked” the mass base happy recording of VP Kinsey trying to get off world to CYOA and the call to the President handed him his ass.
No Jack to take the fall on this one as he was nearly dead, and everyone else was accounted for aboard the ships saving the world, Kinsey was being roasted alive across the world wide web and losing badly on points in his own country.
Yet SOMEONE had to brief the news people about what happened in the battle down under.

Hammond was volunteered for that honor since he had been there in the battle and been in command of SGC.
Kinsey was told to shut his GD mouth, before he was arrested for treason.
Hammond volunteered Doctor Jackson to give his own introduction report as it was something they usually had him do to the new people coming in.

Chaos reigned across the globe for months as the public tried to take it all in, many denied it much like the flat earthers. Preachers across religions preached against it being known as it was heresy. Others lined up to work at the base to protect their own people, much like they did right after 9/11.

Hammond and crew felt they would get through this given time. Especially now that things were in the open and Kinsey was forced to answer for his try at getting the protection of their planet shut down for profit. He sang like the coward he was, leading to international arrests of members of the Trust and killing of many of Ba-al’s clones. A hunt order was out for him. Wanted. Preferably dead.

It shouldn’t take long with people around the world looking for him.
Weir had been tagged to take over the SGC but after her actions betrayed the trust of long-time allies she was sent off to work far away from anything SGC related. Jack was healed and put in charge of his old base, with Carter now in charge of Area-51 since Landry was a member of the Trust.
Hammond went to DC to run Homeworld and advise the President along with his new VP. And Daniel was the civilian overseer of the new base in Antarctica with McKay as the COS.

The new leadership felt they had a chance now with the world in the know and Kinsey no longer blocking the budget to fight against being invaded by the enemy now.
