HP, Wand Weighing Ceremony
“May I introduce Mr. Ollivander?” said Dumbledore, taking his place at the judges’ table and talking to the champions. “He will be checking your wands to ensure that they are in good condition before the tournament.” Rowling, J.K. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (p. 124). Pottermore Publishing. Kindle Edition.
Harry watched as Olivander pulled his usually chatty self to announce to everyone the various champion’s wands/tools/protective secrets, and what they were made of. And were good at. All for gossip and rumor monger Rita. Who was gleefully writing everything down.
“Good,” said Mr. Ollivander, handing Krum back his wand. “Which leaves . . . Mr. Potter.” Rowling, J.K. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (p. 125). Pottermore Publishing. Kindle Edition.
Everyone stared at the unmoving Harry, and Rita’s pen was going madly on her floating parchment.
“Mr. Potter? Please come forwards.”
Harry spoke calmly and coldly, “Master Wand Crafter, what is the name the community at large calls me?”
“I don’t see…”
“Please answer me?” Harry overrode him with the temperature dropping from the coldness of his voice.
Ollivander sat up straight “If I must, everyone calls you ‘The Boy Who Lived. There. Now…”
“And why do they call me that?”
Ollivander was getting angry now and held out his hand for the wand.
“Come now Master Crafter you were all set to scare a little BOY about it when I got my wand from you. Surely you can do your little speal now in front of the press and other dignitaries. Or should I? I got it when the last dark lord – lower case – used his wand on me supposedly and cast the AK. Isn’t that right Master Craftsman? And isn’t it right that according to your spiel, you sold that wand to him when he, too, was a boy going to school for the first time. As well as all his followers. Hmmm?
“Now here we are in front of the press and your gift of the gab is about to spill out yet more information to the public and press to those same ‘Imperioused’ people and other uncaught individuals like those who attacked at the World Cup. And what do you know, the one who took out their old Master is in this Tournament and you’re about to tell everyone here and the press all about my wand. Not a good thing, I think. Do you? Or do you? Are you an enemy of the Family Potter? Master Craftsman? Or do we do this exam in private and state one way or another that the wand passes and never speak about my wand to another again?” His voice was casually cold, and Ollivander shivered before pointing back upstairs and away from everyone.
Rita didn’t get the pictures she wanted, but she got one hell of a story that trumped her so-called interview.
